I came across the term while reading a story on /. about bloggers fighting comment spam by “Googlebombing” Wikipedia’s “Online Poker” page. I had never heard this term before so I looked it up at Wikipedia.org:

A Google bomb or Google wash is an attempt to influence the ranking of a given site in results returned by the Google search engine. Due to the way that Google’s PageRank algorithm works, a website will be ranked higher if the sites that link to that page all use consistent anchor text. Googlebomb is used both as a verb and a noun.

Being a blogger myself, I have gotten plenty of comment spam, so I say, lets make Wikipedia the number 1 result (At the time this article was written, Wikipedia.org is #3). Maybe if we hurt their traffic enough, these stupid sites will leave us alone.
